Final Score: Hurricanes 4 – Blue Jackets 3
Game Summary
Seth Jones’ first home game was better than his first game but still not the optimal result. The Jackets fell behind early but managed to claw back and get it to OT, before Jordan Staal won it for the Hurricanes. Hey at least the Predators have lost twice as well.
Jones was very good again. He had a 55.58% Corsi, but the even more impressive number is that of his partner Ryan Murray. Murray was fourth on the team with 63.33% Corsi. This is one of the things Jones is great at; boosting the performance of others. This is just the beginning of great performances from these two.
The Blue Jackets were without Captain Nick Foligno who has been placed on the IR. Foligno was hit in the head in Friday’s game and the IR move allowed the team to bring up another forward. Foligno isn’t expected to be out that long but with nine defencemen currently on the team they didn’t want to risk one on waivers to bring up another forward.
Brad Malone who delivered the hit on Foligno had a hearing with the NHL but was not suspended. I was quite surprised by this. I think the fact that a penalty wasn’t called on the play weighed into it. Malone was in the lineup and promptly fought Jared Boll.
With Foligno out the Jackets recalled Kerby Rychel from Lake Erie. Rychel immediately stepped into Foligno’s spot on the third line alongside William Karlsson and Josh Anderson. The “kid line… as they are calling it was great. Each player was over 50% possession with Karlsson leading the team at 77.27%. They also combined to score a great goal, Anderson finishing off a great pass from Rychel for the first of his career.

— Stephanie (@myregularface) January 10, 2016Cam Atkinson started the scoring for the Jackets with a ridiculous shorthanded goal. His second shorty of the season, he is the only Jacket to score when down a man this season. He is also second in shorthanded chances on the team behind Matt Calvert. This is one of the benefits of having skilled players on the penalty kill.
Can't catch @CamAtkinson13. #CARvsCBJ

— NHL (@NHL) January 10, 2016Joonas Korpisalo received the start as Anton Forsberg started Friday. He was just ok. He allowed four goals on 30 shots for an .867 sv%. Forsberg has clearly been the better goalie in the NHL but you have to continue to give Korpisalo starts. He's not going to develop on the bench.
