I happen to think the Edmonton Oilers would probably be best off trading 4th overall in a deal for a young, established top-4 blue liner (like Tyson Barrie or Hampus Lindholm, for example) but if they keep the pick I think Pierre-Luc Dubois is the way to go.
I really like Matthew Tkachuk but I think Dubois is a better goal scorer and a better skater. He has experience playing all three forward positions, and is also a couple inches taller than Tkachuk, which can't hurt his cause.
Matt Henderson I'm still undecided about how I feel regarding who should go 4th. A lot of people whose opinion I value quite highly like Pierre-Luc Dubois over Tkachuk because of primary points. That said, Tkachuk isnt some fire hydrant being propped up by Dvorak and Marner. He's clearly skilled in his own right.
I will say this. I believe that Tkachuk will go 4th in the draft regardless of where I eventually fall on that decision. He has the famous name, the points, and the size to back up his projection into 4th. There's no doubt that a fair number of his points are because of Marner, but he cant help who he plays well with. To me, Tkachuk is a lock for 4th regardless of whether PLD might actually be the better prospect.
James Tanner There is no way the Oilers should pick anyone fourth overall.
If there was ever a must-trade pick, it's this. They need defense and someone will overpay for a top ten pick.
