Curtis Glencross Demands Trade; Boston Bruins? (trades)

While it’s not exactly news to any fans that veteran forward Curtis Glencross is likely going to be dealt this year, it has just recently been made public that he has actually asked for a trade and supplied a list of teams of acceptable destinations.

The teams have not been made public and as of now are between him and upper management, but it would stand to reason that he’s picked a few teams that are likely looking for some help on the wings during their respective playoff pushes.

The 32 year old alternate captain has essentially played his entire career with the Flames (outside of 71 games), having amassed 240pts in 414 games played. More specifically, Glencross has put up 76pts with the Flames over the past three seasons in 127 games played. Both averages work out to about a 0.58 point per game pace, for those inquiring.

Curtis has dealt with some injuries over recent years but seems to be returning to shape, at least in terms of his hustle and skating. His game could stand to improve overall and Bob Hartley hasn’t exactly been rewarding the veteran with a whole lot of ice time, as he averages 16:50 of ice time per game, good for 9th on the team.

Glencross has been known to be a great leader as he is very professional about his business and the kind of guy a team looking to make a push in the playoffs could utilize. He finishes his checks (97hits in 49gp) and has been responsible defensively, despite needing to find that offensive touch.

I mentioned a few days ago that I felt that a trade between the Boston Bruins and Calgary Flames could transpire with Glencross and Loui Eriksson being the main pieces involved. Both players could use a change and Boston could certainly use some added veteran experience to improve their current chances for the postseason.

Glencross recently stated that he’s not content with the amount of ice time or responsibility he’s been given under Hartley and would like to prove that he can offer much more. It’s the kind of thing that a team like Boston wants to hear and 29 year old Eriksson could also stand to be given a second chance in Calgary since his days in Dallas.

“No, I’m disappointed in that circumstance,… offered Glencross. “I feel like I can give more to this team and I can be used more on this team.…

In terms of contracts, Glencross has a cap hit of $2.55M and will be a UFA upon completion of this season, while Eriksson has another year left at $4.25M. The two players have similar numbers in terms of production as Curtis has put up 26pts in 49gp with 16:50TOI, while Eriksson has totaled 32pts in 56gp and 18:06TOI.

I think there could be something here and I certainly feel that Boston would be one of the teams that Glencross and his agent selected as possible destinations.

What about you? Any other teams you feel would make sense?
