The Coyotes have traded Lucas Lessio to the Canadiens for Christian Thomas. The move is all part of the plan the Coyotes have to build their team with the children of ex-NHL players.
"We're still trying to get Greg Campbell and we regret not claiming Ferraro off waivers a few weeks back," a source not at all close to the action said.
The Coyotes now have the sons of ex-NHLers Tie Domi, Fred Perlini, Steve Thomas, Sean Burke, Ulf Samuelsson, Al MacInnis and Gord Murphy and only recently parted ways with the son of Ron Hextall.
Said the same source: "You'll never believe how devastated Maloney was when he found out that Christian Dvorak wasn't Radek's son."
In all honestly, this move is fine - it's one probably not gonna make it prospect for another. Sure, Lessio is bigger and younger, but whatever.
Maybe Christian Thomas is a late bloomer. Lucas Lessio wasn't ever going to be an impact player here and so it's one of those trades where you just basically don't care at all.
I wonder what Lessio's dad did for a living?
-------- Mike Smith is down for up to ten weeks, or maybe if we're lucky:
You would think that his injury would prompt a trade for a goalie, but then again, you would have thought that his sub-Andre Racicot would have already prompted a trade.
So who knows?
I do know of at least one former #1 goalie prospect who is still decently young and highly talented who would be available on the cheap, doesn't make too much, doesn't require a long term commitment and has a massive risk vs reward upside.
The only question is did Jonathan Bernier's Dad ever play in the NHL?
My source says it's entirely possible that Maloney thinks that Steve Bernier is Jon's father and that as such he might be tempted to acquire him. He also pointed out that Jon's son is just about two years old and could be signed on the cheap if the Coyotes played their cards right with his dad.
