Calgary Flames: Andersson, Mangiapane Featured In OHL All-Star Teams (Flames)

On Thursday the OHL announced their yearly All-Star teams and a couple Calgary Flames prospects were featured.

Defenseman Rasmus Andersson, along with projected top-15 pick Mikhail Sergachev, was one of the two defensemen chosen as a First-Team All-Star.

Andersson led all OHL defensemen in points (60) and shots on goal (220) while logging a ton of minutes for the Barrie Colts.

Andersson also led all OHL defensemen in on-ice goals for at even-strength as the Colts scored 94(!) times in 64 regular season games with Andersson on the ice. Despite playing so many minutes against stiff competition Andersson was only on for 57 goals against, good for a plus-37 goal differential at evens.

Oddly enough, Andersson registered 37 primary points at even-strength, which was also good for tops among OHL blue liners.

By all accounts he was nothing short of spectacular this past season and continues to look like an absolute steal at 53rd overall.

Meanwhile left winger Andrew Mangiapane, who was also drafted by the Flames in 2015, was named a Second-Team All-Star. Projected top-5 pick Matthew Tkachuk was the left winger to beat him out for a spot on the First-Team.

Mangiapane is coming off his second straight 100+ point season. What's encouraging is that a lot of those points came at even-strength.

He scored 33 goals at evens, which was 2nd to Alex DeBrincat, and finished 2nd in even-strength primary points with 56. Only Kevin Labanc (Sharks prospect), who led the league in scoring, had more points at evens.

Obviously those kind of numbers won't translate to the NHL but Mangiapane has been nothing short of dominant at the OHL level and that bodes well for his future.
