Well, Ovechkin didn't get a hattrick, and was robbed with another coaches challenge complaining of goalie interference.
The Maple Leafs were up 2-1 over the Caps until Nicklas Backstrom scored with under a second left in regulation when he batted in a bobbling puck passed James Reimer. Ovechkin looks to have tipped the puck to Backstrom, but the official call was an assist from Justin Williams and TJ Oshie.
3 on 3 was uneventful as the Caps went to a shootout. Reimer and Braden Holtyby went toe-to-toe until Alex Ovechkin scored the winning shootout goal to beat the Leafs 3-2.
It may not count on the scoresheet, but it still counts on the board. The Captain lead the way tonight with a goal and 8 shots snagging the player of the game honors.
Holtby stopped 23 shots.
The Caps are now 10-3-0 heading into Detroit on Tuesday where the Red Wings will honor Sergei Fedorov. However, all eyes will be on Ovechkin as he looks to break his former mentors goals record for a Russian.

He may not have a hattrick, yet, but Ovechkin has one goal tonight and that is all needed to tie Sergei Fedorov as the all-time goal scorer leader among Russian-born players in the NHL.
Ovechkin whacked a bobbling puck on his backhand to score his first power-play goal of the year, and the 483rd goal of his career.
The game is currently in the middle of the second and we'll be paying close attention to the Great 8 as he is flying tonight against the Toronto Maple LLeafs.
