Wild Flower (blackhawks)

Marc-Andre Fleury

Another trade detail includes the Blackhawks retaining 50% of Fleury's $7M salary. The retention likely helped to sweeten the pot in order to add favorable conditions to the 2nd. It was also reported that general manager Kyle Davidson kept Fleury in the loop of trade developments.

With Fleury no longer the Hawks #1 goalie and creating a vacancy, Collin Delia has been recalled from the IceHogs to be the backup to Kevin Lankinen for the remainder of the season. This move allows top Rockford goalie Arvid Soderblom to backstop the Hogs to a playoff berth and run.

Once the NHL and AHL seasons are done, Lankinen and Delia become UFAs while Soderblom is signed through 2022-23. A possible scenario is to re-sign Lankinen, part ways with Delia, and seek a veteran goalie to back up Lankinen so he can continue growing to be a reliable netminder.

Ryan Carpenter

Prior to the trade, Carpenter led the Hawks in ice time on the penalty kill so look for his shifts to go to new guys Boris Katchouk and Taylor Raddysh with preference to the former. If re-signed, Sam Lafferty could form a hard-to-play-against 4th line with Katchouk and MacKenzie Entwistle looking ahead.

Still Here

With Carpenter no longer a 4th line fixture and the aforementioned trade bait that no teams traded for yesterday (plus the Hawks also recalled Reese Johnson in addition to Delia), here's a suggested lineup to ride out the rest of the season:

de Haan - S Jones McCabe - C Jones Vlasic - Stillman
