Lets hope tonight’s games bring as much drama as last night, with 5 games going to OT! Wednesday night brings us the smallest slate of games in over a week with only 5 on tap! Vegas and Minnesota was a defensive struggle two nights ago and I expect a similar style of game. I hit the Wild as they are tough at home and Vegas isn’t the same team on the road. But tonight the system calls for Vegas.
We have 2 big tilts in the North Division as Ottawa looks to avenge their 3-2 loss to Edmonton and Montreal looks to rebound from letting one slip away in Vancouver last time out.
**I am going to start researching teams that come off at least a 5 game road trip and how they fare in their first game back home.**
I am starting a new angle that you will see in Scenario #1. It’s a very small size, but it’s 3-0 this week and there are 4 more spots like this between now and March 18th. I will track it and see how its plays out here for all those that read the column.
Scenario #1 – Teams that are rested, either sitting at home or on the road while their opponent plays the night before. 4-0 in less than a week of tracking it!
Scenario #2 – Teams that are playing each other in back to back games, in which the home team loses the first game, the record of the home team in the second game is 46-28! Colorado fits the system tonight.
Scenario #3 – Teams playing back to back road games on consecutive nights tend to go under the total in the 2nd game. So far that trend is 16-19 when teams play on the road back to back nights.
Scenario #4 - One last angle I am tracking that is slightly profitable and similar to Scenario #1, is when any team loses the first game of a back to back against the same team, regardless if it’s on the road or at home, those teams are 65-51 in that situation. Vegas, LA, Ottawa and Montreal fit the system tonight.
Quick stat updates - First period totals going over were 5-4 last night and are 178-207 on the season. Road teams were 3-6 last night and are 183-195 on the season. Game totals going over the total were 6-2-1 last night and are 190-182-5 on the season.
Gamenotes for tonight –
Vegas/Minny – Wild have won 2 of the 3 head to head meetings this season. I lean to the under here as well.
Sens/Oilers – Oilers have won all 5 match ups this season, but the last 4 have gone under the total!
Yotes/Avs – MacKinnon returns to the line up for the Avs, they have been very inconsistent with him out of the line up. Look for the Avs to rebound from their home loss two nights ago.
Kings/Ducks – Ducks have won both meetings head to head this season. Ducks have won 2 in a row!!
Habs/Canucks – Before the last meeting between these two, all 5 games had gone over the total. Then last game went under. Montreal has won 4 of 6 meetings this season.
System plays all for 1 Unit tonight –
Vegas – ML(-115) Ottawa – ML(+210) Colorado – ML(-195) LA – ML(-127) Montreal – ML(-154)
Feel free to ask any questions in the blog and I always get back to everyone. I will have Twitter and Instagram going shortly. Good luck tonight!
