**Please take a look at the bonus article I posted Thursday night in regards to teams returning from long road trips in their first game back on homeice.**
A typical busy Saturday in the NHL today with 12 games, along with 8 rematches.
Jets/Leafs finish off three straight games head to head in what has been some of the best hockey we have seen this season. If the first two games are any indication of what is store for us tonight, this is a game you can’t miss!
Vegas/St. Louis go at it in back to back nights as they battle it out for top spot in the West Division. I can’t back the Rangers, Devils or Sabres in my system plays today. Thursday night I left alone the Preds and it paid off!
**I have started to research teams that come off at least a 5 game road trip and how they fare in their first game back home.** Buffalo and St. Louis lost on back to back nights, returning from long road trips. Its 2-0 if you get against these two teams. Tonight we have TB off a 7 game road trip. Sadly, they play the Preds who have been dreadful, but you never know!
I am starting a new angle that you will see in Scenario #1. It’s a very small size, but it’s 5-0 this week and there are 2 more spots like this between now and March 18th. I will track it and see how its plays out here for all those that read the column.
Scenario #1 – Teams that are rested, either sitting at home or on the road while their opponent plays the night before. 5-0 in the first week of tracking it! Vancouver fits the system tonight.
Scenario #2 – Teams that are playing each other in back to back games, in which the home team loses the first game, the record of the home team in the second game is 49-29! Flyers Blues and Ducks fit the system tonight.
Scenario #3 – Teams playing back to back road games on consecutive nights tend to go under the total in the 2nd game. So far that trend is 16-19 when teams play on the road back to back nights. Vegas/STL, Sharks/Ducks
Scenario #4 - One last angle I am tracking that is slightly profitable and similar to Scenario #1, is when any team loses the first game of a back to back against the same team, regardless if it’s on the road or at home, those teams are 70-55 in that situation.
Quick stat updates - First period totals going over were 2-3 last night and are 188-217 on the season. Road teams were 2-3 last night and are 191-207 on the season. Game totals going over the total were 2-2-1 last night and are 203-187-7 on the season.
Gamenotes for today/tonight –
NYR/Bruins – 1PM – Bruins have won 3 of meetings while they have gone under the total 3 of 4 games.
Stars/Jackets – 5PM – Both teams struggling, they split the first 4 meetings head to head.
Jets/Leafs – 3rd meeting in 5 nights, first two games were 4-3 scores with outstanding goaltending.
Pens/Sabres – Hard to back the Sabres even though the system says to play them after Pitt won on the road Thursday night.
NJ/NYI – Isles have won 3 of 4, NJ was outclassed last game out.
Caps/Flyers – Caps have won 2 of the 3 head to head, look for the Flyers to push back on homeice tonight.
Preds/TB – TB off a long roadie but Preds are a mess, system says go with the dog here. Tampa has won all 4 meetings this year.
Hawks/Panthers – Florida won the first two meetings with both going over the total.
Habs/Flames – Flames have won 2 of the first 3 meetings, always tight games between these two teams, should expect more of the same tonight.
Vegas/STL – First two meetings they split, rubber match comes tonight!
Sharks/Ducks – SJ has won 3 of 4 head to head, including last nights dominate win.
Oilers/Canucks – Oilers have won 3 of 4 this year but Canucks sitting rested at home while Oilers played the Sens.
System plays all for 1 Unit each –
Flyers – ML(-119) Preds – ML(+285) Habs – ML(-112) Canucks – ML(+106) Ducks - ML(+104) Blues - ML(+102) Vegas/STL u6(+102) Sharks/Ducks u6(-122)
Feel free to ask any questions in the blog and I always get back to everyone. I will have Twitter and Instagram going shortly. Good luck tonight!
