Game Night in Smashville!
The Nashville Predators begin the final weekend of preseason play tonight with a tilt against Seth Jones and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Expectations are high in Columbus this season as the Jackets are finally building this team the right way, from the net out. Sergei Bobrovski is the answer in net, they have a stellar young defense and this team seems to have bought in to John Tortorella’s system and methods.
I have a theory about Tortorella… I don’t think he does well in major hockey media markets. New York and Vancouver were disasters for a coach who flat out does not suffer fools well. Unfortunately, the white hot glare of the media in some markets drive silly questions and crazy comments… Torts doesn’t seem to handle that kind of nonsense well… but in a smaller market like C’bus, he seems to be thriving.
Nashville has a few roster questions left to answer… we have covered the “bubble players… extensively over the last few days. These next two games will be populated with a lineup much closer to opening night than we have seen over the last week and a half or so. I want to see the JOFA line in action… I’d like to see Kevin Fiala on the second line wing role… oh let’s face it… I want to get the regular season going!

- Willy Daunic will be on the radio call tonight as Pete Weber is in Buffalo being inducted into the Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame. A well deserved honor for the Voice of the Predators.
- Mike Milbury will be filling in for Eddie Olczyk on NBC NHL broadcasts? Ugh…
