Final Score: Blue Jackets 4 – Devils 1
Game Summary
The Jackets played their second straight matinée game. Afternoon games are always interesting and this game was certainly that. The start to the game was wild. The Devils had three power plays and three goals were scored. Thanks to some impressive penalty killing from the Jackets they held a 2-1 lead.
Lukas Sedlak scored the first short-handed goal. He got himself on a breakaway and was hooked leading to a penalty shot.
Lukas Sedlak with his first career penalty shot scores. Does it against one of the better goaltenders in the league too. 1-0. #CBJ pic.twitter.com/fb1nkm91Do

Sedlak doesn’t do anything fancy just waits out Cory Schneider. Sedlak was playing in his first game since recovering from his injury. With the emergence of Oliver Bjorkstrand, Sedlak when healthy has been relegated to the press box. He was back in today though because Alexander Wennberg was shaken up from a hit yesterday against the Islanders and was sat out for precautionary reasons.
Boone Jenner scored the second short-handed goal and it came off of one hell of an individual effort.
Before the weird power play goal from the Devils.

Boone Jenner had a legendary PK shift that ended with a shorthanded goal. #CBJ pic.twitter.com/7a3R1PZO5w
Even without the goal this is great penalty kill shift. Boone gets the puck and does not let any Devil touch it. He uses every inch of his frame to shield the puck and kill valuable seconds. He is able to cycle the puck back to the point and they get it back to him and he scores.
If two short-handed goals weren’t enough, the Devils scored immediately after Boone did. To add to the wildness of the game, the goal was challenged for offside and could have been reviewed for goalie interference.

Pavel Zacha got his skate down in time so the play was confirmed to be onside and the goal counted.
The wackiness continued in the second where the Jackets got another penalty shot. Josh Anderson was hauled down and went crashing into the net. He was banged up on the play and unable to take the penalty shot. John Tortorella tried to pull a fast one by sending out sent out Sam Gagner to take the shot. Gagner was not on the ice so he was ineligible. Brandon Dubinsky took the shot, and went with the same move as Sedlak.

Everything calmed down in the third period. The Jackets got an empty net goal from Jenner and took home a 4-1 victory. With the win the Jackets reach 100 points for the first time in franchise history and officially clinch a playoff spot.
