Post Battle #37 vs. the Washington Capitals (Blue Jackets)

Final Score: Capitals 5 – Blue Jackets 0

Game Summary

All good things must come to end. The Jackets win streak ends as the second longest in NHL history at 16 after losing 5-0 to the Washington Capitals. This was just the sixth regulation loss for the Blue Jackets this season. It’s January sixth. Let that sink in for a minute.

We all knew they were going to lose eventually so it’s hard to fault anyone for the loss. Sergei Bobrovsky didn’t play well for the first time in a long time. He allowed five goals on 23 shots for a .783 save percentage. He was eventually pulled late in the game. Over the streak Bobrovsky played in 14 games and was incredible with .941 save percentage. The goals the Capitals were scoring were ones where Bobrovsky just had no chance one. They were either scramble plays like this

or two on ones like this;

The Jackets were shutout for just the second time this season. They weren’t getting much going at 5 on 5 and the power play was able to bail them out like it has. Washington took some penalties and gave the Jackets top power play unit chances, but the Caps did well to shut it down as the Jackets went 0-for-5 on the PP.

The Jackets don’t have much time to dwell on this loss. They are off today but are right back at in on the weekend, with a back to back against the Rangers and Flyers on Saturday and Sunday. Time to start a new streak!
