Keeping the foot on the pedal; Leafs vs. Jets (maple leafs)

For the latest Leafs updates or on Twitter The Toronto Maple Leafs did not play like a team that clinched a playoff spot one night after guaranteeing entry to the postseason, as the club bounced back after falling behind three times and surrendering a third period lead to win 5-4 over the New York Islanders at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Friday. Auston Matthews scored the game winner with 3:58 remaining to give the Maple Leafs their 20th victory on the road and move them over the 100-point mark for the first time since 2003-04. Nazem Kadri, Nikita Zaitsev, Mitch Marner and James van Riemsdyk also tallied for Toronto and Frederik Andersen made 29 saves for his 37th victory, tying him for the club record for most wins by a goalie in a season. The Leafs have a quick turnaround on Saturday, playing their final back-to-back game of the year against the Winnipeg Jets at Air Canada Centre. The Jets are essentially the Western Conference counterpart to Toronto, who have 104 points and boast a plethora of offensively talented forwards (Blake Wheeler, Patrik Laine, Nikolaj Ehlers, Mark Scheifele) and have solid goaltending in Connor Hellebuyck. Curtis McElhinney will start for Toronto and after being scratched on Friday, veterans Tomas Plekanec and Roman Polak will return to the lineup in place of Dominic Moore and Connor Carrick. Leo Komarov, who missed eight games with a lower body injury, skated during the optional morning skate, but the Leafs head coach hesitated to confirm that the feisty winger would return to the lineup on Saturday, saying it would be a game-time decision.
