Usually wins don't seem to bother people but if anyone was paying attention to the Jets play last night then they should have concerns about how difficult it was to earn two points. Be honest, that was a win that not only ugly but almost not even a win as there was just as much opportunity for Chicago to tie the game in the final minutes.
Before the hard hitting analysis be thankful for Ehlers and Laine- without their hot hands there's not telling how bad that game could have been. Scheifele also had a very good netting him 3 assists for his efforts.
The game was bad and no one is going to find bright spots on the defensive side of play but anyone have any idea when Hellebuyck is not going to give up a softie? Rutta's goal, his second of the season was awful and very reminiscent of a goal surrendered on Tuesday to the Penguins. In fact combined with the Penguins game and a total of nine goals allowed only one goal was to some one who had scored more than 9- Sidney Crosby. Every other goal scorer of the eight who scored had less than 4 goals each on the season.
Kruger's goal.
Here the Blackhawks come into the zone watch where Little goes.
As the play progresses Myers engages on his side but where is Little going and now Schilling is left to watch over two players.
Now Little turns and sees the trailer and Laine has come in to try to help but look behind Schilling.
The shot is fired wide and is now behind the net yet no one has engaged Martinsen in front, at all.
Martinsen grabs the puck and Little and Schilling are left in front to guard the net.
Kruger comes in with no deterrent as Little is left alone to manage him and Martinsen.
And there is the first Chicago goal.
Hayden goal.
You can see Hayden make his way out of his zone as he takes a pass and puts it backwards the benches and Kahun.
Now you can see the Jets last line of defense all in a row with Niku, Roslovic and Chiarot.

Kahun pushes the puck through and Niku and Roslovic realize the pickle they are in. Keep and eye on Hayden and Chiarot.
Hayden is through and streaking towards Hellebuyck probably as surprised as anyone else at that moment.
He gets his first shot and whack at it but look at Roslovic's stride he's thinking it's in or his mates will clean up the mess.
Uh-oh Jack look who just scooped in to score- Hayden. Oh hey neat there's Chiarot in there too.
Rutta's goal needs no breakdown.
Kahun's goal.
So this play really starts earlier as Niku gets the puck along the boards with time. Instead of swinging out to the other side he decides to do a fake out and gets caught and then turns it over.
Roslovic is also there to assist right?
He's spun around and now at least head's to the front of the net.
The puck is passed in front but goes up in the air, Petan is looking so is Chiarot. Anyone looking at Kahun?
PEtan has taken himself out of the play, Roslovic is trying to bat the puck away with a high stick and Chiarot is well...
I call this pic 'hockey position' because Chiarot and Petan are standing in that classic ready position you teach Timbits kids and doing nothing. Kahun has gloved the puck down and placed it to shoot and score.
Anisimov goal
This one is on Trouba but he at least makes an effort to help out...(see later)
Trouba now takes a swing at clear the puck away but misses and he's in deep now.
The puck has gone past him and Morrissey is left along to defend a 3-on-1. So what does he do?
Morrissey may not have even seen Kane as the trailer as he can't possibly think no forward would not be rushing back right? Of course not so he lies down to take out the pass.
Now Morrissey is out of the play and Kane is alone in the slot with the puck and no one on him and another player to pass to! At left Trouba is making an effort.
Now let's look from another angle. See Laine at the top as Trouba misses the puck.
Trouba has already turned around and hustling back after his gaffe and Laine is doing what?
Well he's coasting is what he's doing and Trouba actually could have done the same but apparently he gives a damn.
If you watched the Penguins game this was basically wash, rinse, repeat of the same level of effort and defensive zone coverage. In past years, or last year, Hellebuyck might have made those stops and bought time for recovery but that is not happening right now. The only ones who don't seem to know that are the rest of the Jets.
The fourth line got torched last night on coverage, but so did others and it's not pretty. There seems to be a lack of communication and understanding between forwards and defense and the fourth line. This is a concerning trend and it does not seem to be getting better, rather worse. Watching the Jets play the Devils tomorrow will be interesting as Paul Maurice needs to correct this and quick- there are far too many mistakes being made.
I'm not sure what the solution is other than be better but what more should be said- these are mistakes kids in Bantam and Peewee make yet here we are with the Jets. Against Nashville, Colorado or any other top team the Jets would get rocked so hopefully things can get sorted real quick before that happens.
