The Anaheim Ducks announced yesterday that defenseman Jamie Drysdale will be out for 4-6 months with a torn labrum. He’s set to undergo surgery in the near future.

Losing Drysdale is obviously a huge blow for the Ducks’ blue line. He’s an excellent skater, capable of providing offense and in the midst of rounding out his game defensively. Anaheim’s blue line is pretty weak as is and considering this could be a potential season-ending injury, it puts Anaheim in a rough spot.

It also creates an interesting contract situation, because Drysdale will be a restricted free agent this summer. If he doesn’t return before the end of the season, it may be more likely the Ducks opt for a bridge deal, given Drysdale would really only have played one full NHL season at that point, making for a small sample size of performance.
