Got Howled At (chicago)

While play was unsatisfactory by allowing a half dozen goals and being down by as much as 3, the Blackhawks did crank out an exciting effort to stage another comeback in consecutive games. The Hawks fell short again as the Coyotes were victorious powered by Johan Larsson's hat trick.

Game Notes

* On the 1st goal allowed, Connor Murphy and Calvin de Haan had their players covered while Dylan Strome couldn't keep up with Dysin Mayo to impede his shot which beat Marc-Andre Fleury from a sharp angle to the far side.

* On the 2nd goal allowed, Larsson eclipsed Fleury but also got a fortunate bounce by having Janis Moser's point shot ricochet off of his backside and deflect opposite of where Fleury was leaning.

* On the 3rd goal allowed, there was just swift puck movement to get the Hawks defense moving then a textbook redirected tip-in by Travis Boyd to cap off the sequence.

* On the 4th goal allowed, Clayton Keller snapped a shot at the top of the key through a traffic jam of more than half the players on the ice and beat Fleury cleanly as he had no eyes to track the puck.

* On the 5th goal allowed, again, just swift puck movement to manufacture a goal by isolating the Hawks defense to the left side of the ice and scoring from the right side.

* Philipp Kurashev has been driving to the net and making plays down low with regularity over the stretch of games ever since returning from time in the AHL.

* MacKenzie Entwistle has been proving more and more with budding offensive productivity that he may be worthy of consideration for a 3rd line role and not just settle on the 4th.

* Nicolas Beaudin had extremely limited ice time with 1:11 total as he didn't skate at all in the 1st period, had one shift in the 2nd, and one more in the 3rd.

* Beaudin was moved from the taxi squad to the active roster.

* Ian Mitchell and Mike Hardman were recalled to the active roster from Rockford.

* Jakub Galvas, Kurtis Gabriel, and Josiah Slavin were also recalled from the IceHogs but they were put on the taxi squad.

Trade Rumors

Calvin de Haan

"You can add de Haan to the list of rental defensemen that will be in play at the deadline. He’s struggled at times this season, like most of Chicago’s blue line, but would be an ideal third pair option on a contending team. de Haan is 20th in the NHL in blocked shots (1,005) since the start of the 2013-14 season."

Dylan Strome

"It’s been a tough haul for Strome this season, who has been trying to find his game after a season-opening healthy scratch. We reported then the Blackhawks, under GM Stan Bowman at the time, was working to try and find Strome a new home. Interim GM Kyle Davidson has continued the effort. Strome has three goals and five assists for eight points in 23 games. He’s two seasons removed from a 38-point campaign in 58 games during the COVID-19 shortened 2019-20 season."

Henrik Borgstrom

"Like Strome, the Blackhawks are open to moving Borgstrom, whom then-GM Bowman took on Brett Connolly’s contract from Florida just to get in a Blackhawks uniform. It’s been a rollercoaster ride for Borgstrom, who was in the COVID-19 protocol and then missed time with a non-COVID illness this season. He’s played mostly a third line role with some second unit power-play time -- but has collected just two goals and three assists for five points in 20 games."
