No better way to break news in this day and age, then by tweeting it yourself:

A good, solid signing by Ken Holland to extend Tatar for three seasons at a decent cap hit for the 23 year-old. When you look around the league at young forwards recently signed in the past year or so at a similar age, Tatar compares favourably.

Nazem Kadri (23 years old) $2.9 million AAV - 113 points in 177 NHL GP Mikkel Boedeker (24 years old) $2.55 million AAV - 146 points in 338 NHL GP Alex Killorn (24 years old) $2.55 million AAV - 60 points in 120 NHL GP Jamie McGinn (25 years old) $2.95 million AAV - 122 points in 347 NHL GP

Tomas Tatar (23 years old) $2.75 million AAV - 47 points in 100 NHL GP

In particular, the two-year contract signings of Killorn and McGinn, which were announced last month on June 19th surely appear to have acted as guides for both sides in determining where Tatar should be slotted.

The signing leaves Detroit with approximately $5.2 million to re-sign Danny DeKeyser and complete their roster with 23 players. Of course, they might still re-sign Daniel Alfredsson and would have to leave cap room to cushion his return with the outgoing dollars from the player on the roster he is replacing.

Lastly, found this interesting chart posted by Bob Roberts on Twitter illustrating Tatar's impact on his teammates when it comes to their Corsi % when they play alongside Tatar. The entire roster had a Corsi % over 50% (and closer to 60%) when they were on the ice with Tatar. Less than half of the roster were over 50% when they played without Tatar on the ice with them.

A pretty decisive look at Tatar's influence on his teammates and how his play drives puck possession for his hockey team.
