The Senators trimmed their official roster down to 33 players this morning, following a 2-1 loss to the Hurricanes in Newfoundland yesterday.
They demoted large contingent of players to the AHL Binghamton Senators, none of which are major surprises, aside from perhaps Tobias Lindberg and Ryan Dzingel. Lindberg is a top end prospect who I might have thought would stick around camp a little longer, and Dzingel played well when given a chance, but those are the decisions need to be made at this point in the process to get to a more manageable number.
From the Senators' news release:
Eighteen players were assigned to Binghamton this morning, including: Chris Carlisle, Vincent Dunn, Chris Driedger, Ryan Dzingel, Travis Ewanyk, Scott Greenham, Alex Guptill, Ben Harpur, Danny Hobbs, Guillaume Lepine, Daultan Leveillé, Tobias Lindberg, Ryan Penny, Chris Rumble, Troy Rutkowski, Nick Tuzzolino, Alex Wideman and Matthew Zay.Three players, David Dziurzynski, Patrick Mullen and Cole Schneider, were placed on waivers yesterday, and will be assigned to Binghamton should they clear waivers at noon today.
Injured players Buddy Robinson and Michael Sdao were moved to injured non-roster.
That will form the majority of the roster for tonight's exhibition game at the Carleton University Ice House as the "BSens" take on the Carleton Ravens at 7:00.
There are still 3 goalies, 11 blueliners and 19 forwards in camp for a total of 33 players. Some will be getting a last look in Winnipeg tomorrow night and with just 3 exhibition games remaining time is running short for those on the bubble.
SENS FALL ON THE ROCK Speaking of the bubble, Shane Prince continued to solidify his standing as a roster player and is making his case to be in the opening night lineup. Prince followed up a solid effort at home on Saturday night with his second goal of the pre-season on Sunday, and for good measure scored a nice goal in the 3-on-3 trial to end the afternoon.
With no TV coverage of the game and sparse highlights, there isn't much to say about the loss, and it is tough to tell who impressed and who didn't.
