Islanders Radio Deal Announced (islanders)

The Islanders announced Wednesday that WFAN and 970 AM The Answer will join the Islanders Radio Network this season.

WFAN-AM/FM will broadcast 30 games during the regular season on 660 AM and be simulcast on 101.9 FM, starting with the team's home opener on Oct. 16. AM 970 The Answer will broadcast 52 regular season games, starting with the team's 2016-17 season opener against the New York Rangers on Oct. 13.

"We are thrilled to welcome WFAN-AM/FM and AM 970 The Answer to the New York Islanders Radio Network and to greatly expand the reach of Islanders games throughout the tri-state area," said Brett Yormark, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment in the press release.

"The Islanders are delighted for our fans that we will have such excellent radio coverage this season," said Islanders co-owner Jon Ledecky.

Both stations are 50,000 watts and can be heard well into the entire tri-state area.

Radio Hofstra WRHU 88.7 FM will broadcast games for the seventh consecutive season. Hofstra has done a tremendous job over that time and is one of the best college stations in the country.

It would be safe to assume that WFAN will eventually carry all of the team's games once the contract with the Devils ends.

The Islanders head to The Rock tonight to face aforementioned Devils in Newark. It's the team third game in as many days.

Projected forward lines:

Kulemin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck Ladd-Barzal-Parenteau Dal Colle-Quine-Ho-Sang Johnston-Beauvillier-Bernier

Projected defensive pairings: Hickey-Boychuk de Haan-Hamonic Pelech-Pulock

Greiss and Gibson will be goaltenders.

In injury news, Stephen Gionta suffered a lower-body injury in last night's win against the Rangers. He is considered day-to-day. This injury does not help his chances to make the team and will likely sign with the Sound Tigers once he is healthy.

Shane Prince is also day-to-day with a lower-body injury. If he's not ready to begin the season he will be placed on injured reserve and makes Garth Snow's decision on the roster a little easier.
