Coors will look cool for hockey; Avs reduce camp roster to 44 (Avalanche)

I was at Coors Field on Monday for a news conference for the Avalanche/Red Wings regular-season and alumni outdoor games that will be played in February. I also spoke with Joe Sakic and Kris Draper regarding the alumni game.

Here are the links to my NHL.com stories:

Here's the main story.

Here's the alumni game story.

FYI: The NHL announced a limited number of tickets will go on sale to the public on first-come, first-served basis at 10 a.m. MT on Tuesday, Oct. 27. They will be available for purchase at www.Ticketmaster.com/NHL and www.Ticketmaster.ca/NHL

Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog modeled the special jersey the team will wear. The main color is white, a connection to the snow-capped Rocky Mountains, with a burgundy Colorado 'C' surrounding a black puck as the crest. The black collar features 5,280 -- signifying the mile-high altitude -- and larger numbers on the shoulders and back will make it easier for fans to identify the players.

"The Colorado 'C' is something you see everywhere these days and I think our fans will like it as much as we do," Avalanche president Josh Kroenke said.

The Avalanche reduced the training camp roster to 44 players. They assigned 11 players to the San Antonio Rampage in the AHL, reassigned eight players to their respective junior teams and reassigned goalie Maximilian Pajpach to Tappara in Finland.

Left wings Troy Bourke, Trevor Cheek and Michael Schumacher were sent to the Rampage, along with defensemen Cody Corbett, Justin Hamonic, Hubert Labrie and Daniel Maggio; centers Samuel Henley, Garrett Meurs and Reid Petryk; and goalie Spencer Martin.

The following are back with their junior teams: centers J.C. Beaudin (Rouyn-Noranda, QMJHL) and Gustav Olhaver (Seattle, WHL); defensemen Sergei Boikov (Drummondville, QMJHL), Raphael Maheux (Quebec, QMJHL) and Nicolas Meloche (Baie-Comeau, QMJHL); right wing Nick Magyar (Kitchener, OHL); center/left wing Julien Nantel (Rouyn-Noranda, QMJHL); and left wing Alexis Pepin (Val-d’Or, QMJHL).

The Avalanche open preseason play Tuesday night against Anaheim at the Pepsi Center.
