After Cole Caufield gave quite a show in his first game with Team USA, Kaiden Guhle and Jan Mysak were much less involved in their respective team’s game. Team Canada beat Russia 1-0 on a lone goal by Jamie Drysdale who’s shot took a few deflections to fool the excellent Russian goalie Askarov. Guhle gave an honest performance, using his big frame in battles along the boards and being asked to protect the tiniest of leads in the last minute of the game. Later, the Czech Republic destroyed Slovakia by a score of 6-0 and while Habs’ prospect and team captain Mysak is known as an offensive player, he was held off the scoresheet. He did get a couple of scoring chances but failed to capitalize on them. The exhibition games are now over, and the schedule of the Canadiens prospect is as follows for the group stage (eastern time):

Canada (Kaiden Guhle) December 26, 18:00 vs Germany December 27, 18:00 vs Slovakia December 29, 18:00 vs Switzerland December 31, 18:00 vs Finland

USA (Cole Caufield) December 25, 21:30 vs Russia December 26, 21:30 vs Austria December 29, 14:00 vs Czech Republic (and Mysak) December 31, 21:30 vs Sweden

Czech Republic (Jan Mysak) December 26, 14:00 vs Sweden December 27, 21:30 vs Russia December 29, 14:00 vs USA (and Caufield) December 31, 14:00 vs Austria

Earlier yesterday, the NHL release its schedule and we now know that the Habs will kick off their season on January 13th, on the road against Toronto. Looking at the whole schedule, there are 10 back to back games in which we can expect to see Jake Allen feature, but this shouldn’t be the only times we see him. Stephane Waite has said this off-season that in an ideal world Allen would start around 30 games of an 82 games schedule and that they would aim for the same proportion of games in a shorten schedule. If you bring this back to a 56 games calendar, we can expect to see Allen for around 20 games. Of course, that might change in case the Canadiens find themselves in a do or die situation, but for now, let’s hope it doesn’t happen. The Habs first home game is scheduled for January 28th, if they are indeed playing at the Bell Centre, by then it will have been 324 days since their last game in their own building. Expect plenty of games against the same team in a row, including a 3-game series against Toronto to wrap up the season. Can the puck drop yet?
