The writing was on the wall for Max Domi, he spent most of the playoffs on the 4th line and was passed over in the centre depth chart by Nick Suzuki and Jesperi Kotkaniemi. The Domi or Danault debate is officially over. Nevertheless, I’ve said it over and over, I loved Max Domi as a player and what he brought to the team, but this does address an organisational need. A big power forward (6’3’ and 222 lbs) who plays on the right wing and can score. The Canadiens also sweeten the deal for the Blue Jackets by adding a 3rd round pick, the 78th overall in tomorrow's draft (1st round is tonight but the rest is tomorrow).
The only concern is the fact that Anderson is coming off a big shoulder injury, he only played 26 games this past season and got 4 points but look past that last season. In the 3 complete seasons he played with the Jackets, Anderson got the following stats:
2016-2017: 78 games played, 17 goals and 12 assists for 29 points 2017-2018: 63 games played, 19 goals and 11 assists for 30 points 2018-2019: 82 games played, 27 goals and 20 assists for 47 points
I know, this is not a massive amount of points but the size he brings will be huge for the Canadiens who have been way too small for way too long. Anderson is currently a restricted free agent with arbitrations rights so Marc Bergevin will have to sign him to a deal that will fit with his salary structure. His last contract was 3 years at $5.5 M per.

C’était écrit dans le ciel pour Max Domi, il a passé la majorité des séries sur la 4e ligne et s’est fait surpasser au centre par Nick Suzuki et Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Toutefois, et je l’ai répété à de nombreuses reprises, j’aimais beaucoup Max Domi comme joueur et ce qu’il amenait à l’équipe, mais cette transaction répond à un besoin pour l’équipe. Un gros attaquant (6’3’ et 222 lbs) de puissance qui jour à l’aile droite et qui peut marquer. Les Canadiens ont dà» ajouter un petit bonus afin de réussir à obtenir Anderson en donnant également un choix de 3e ronde (78e au total) dans le repêchage de demain (la première ronde est ce soir mais le reste demain).
La seule préoccupation que j’ai à propos de cet échange, est le fait qu’Anderson a subi une sérieuse blessure à l’épaule la saison dernière et qu’il n’a conséquemment joué que 26 matchs en récoltant 4 points. Pendant les 3 saisons complète qu’il a joué à Columbus, sa fiche était la suivante:

Je sais, ce n’est pas une avalanche de points, mais la grosseur qu’il amènera à l’alignement sera importante pour les Canadiens qui ont été trop petits pendant trop longtemps. Anderson est un agent libre avec restriction et des droits d’arbitrage, c’est donc dire que Bergevin devra réussir à le signer à un pacte qui conviendra à sa structure salariale. Son dernier contrat était de 3 ans pour 5.5 million par saison.
