Every morning, after reading La Presse + I check my memories on Facebook. I don't know why I do it but it's been like that for a good 5 years I guess and sometimes, those memories bring a smile to my face. That was the case this morning when I saw that 7 years ago, I received the most unique item in my collection: THE Wink.
About 7 years ago while browsing Sportscardforum.com, I came across a thread talking about this American guy who was using all kind of different medium to create unique art pieces; a Michael Jordan made of pieces of Air Jordans, a Bo Jackson made of baseball bat shavings and what really caught my eye, he used cut up sports cards to make rendition of athletes, mainly baseball at that point.
Facebook reminded me this morning that it was 7 years ago that I found out about @timcarrollart and his work still blows my mind! #SportisArt #collection pic.twitter.com/gT9J8z1OJ0

When I saw that I started thinking that it would just be amazing to add a unique piece like those ones to my collection but to me, it just had to be a Montreal Canadiens player and the more I thought about it, the more I wanted one iconic moment. Since I started watching hockey during the 1986 cup run and I was a huge Patrick Roy fan, I just had to have a piece depicting him. On top of that, for all the emotional rollercoasters the game of hockey has taking me on through the years I don't think any come close to the '93 Cup run. Not only were the Habs near unbeatable in extra time but my favorite player, Saint-Patrick, would go on to win his second Conn Smythe trophy (still the only Canadiens' player to win it twice while wearing the Red, White and Blue - the Conn Smythe was first handed out in 1965 and greats such as Béliveau, Lafleur, Dryden, Gainey and Robinson won it but only once).
I think there's plenty of brilliant moments to chose from as defining of that conquest; Desjardins' hat trick in game 2, Kirk Muller's cup clenching goal, THAT penalty but to me, the best will always be Patrick Roy winking at Tomas Sandstrom after making a big stop as if to say "Yeah you can't beat me, try as much as you like but I'm in the zone and I will win this thing". That moment right there just showed the kind of athlete Roy was, a competitor who oozed confidence and would do anything to win...
If you had to pick one moment in sports to be immortalized in an art piece which one would you pick? For this Habs fan, the choice was easy! #GoHabsGo #Habs #CH #SaintPatrick #93cup #THEWINK pic.twitter.com/Qr1S7chTc1

Whatever happens and no matter how many pieces he makes, I'll always be able to say that my Roy was the first hockey piece he made. Since then, he's made special commissions for Upper Deck at the National Sports Collector Convention and at the All Star games, he's brought Gretzky, Toews, Crosby, Lemieux and MacDonald to life in wonderful pieces.
What about you? If you had to chose a single Habs moment to commemorate your love for this team in a art piece, which moment would you chose? Which players would be on there? Anything in the recent years?
