From Sweden’s top Dman at the World Juniors to the IR. An unfortunate twist (no pun, but maybe it should be?) has SP out “indefinitely… until a series of tests comes back. Hopefully a quick recovery for one of Detroit’s most exciting defensive prospects.
Former Wings defenseman Gustav Lindstrom was placed on waivers by Montreal. Unfortunately the big right shot blue liner never found his spot and now Detroit has a much more expensive 3rd line right shot. Lindstrom will likely have a “journeyman… career, which is still a respectable feat. The difficulty of making it to the NHL or AHL is something I often overlook until I review drafts over the past decade. Best of luck to Gustav.
*quick update. I called the Honda center for clarification. Away team broadcasts will show away ads on digital boards. What caused my personal confusion was the alternating local and Detroit based plugs. Solid strategy as digital broadcasting takes a step forward. Very good drops by Henry, Sven and Mike, well done guys. It’s good for me personally to get it wrong and go to the source and get straight input. I enjoy the process, Honda Center is filled with very gracious staff. Very cool phone call.
In a bit of a slow news cycle, something appeared during the Anaheim game that threw me off for a minute. Ads for Detroit Red Wings games and the Fedorov “stick box… giveaway. There has been a huge cut in advertising budgets as we wait for industry numbers. The one that has come out reports that Americans bought 25% less beer last year. An odd stat. Yes, there was a boycott, but usually a supplemental brand steps up. Lost 1/4 of that market is going to take its toll on sports ads. GM and Ford are also withdrawing in local markets, but to see Detroit ads on Anaheim’s “moving… digital boards was surprising. (Does anyone remember Vancouver crossing the name “Boston… out of the Boston Pizza ads during the playoffs?… Just an interesting peripheral.
Detroit will face Edmonton and that’s a game that can go either way. The goalie needs to be strong and the puck needs to be in the Wings O zone as much as possible. CMD is no joke and racks up more points than an 8 foot buck.
