1) Flyers goaltending prospect Felix Sandström has signed a one-year contract extension with his Swedish Hockey League team, Brynà¤s IF Gà¤vle. This was not unexpected. There is presently a logjam for playing time on the American Hockey League's Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and the 20-year-old Sandström has not yet been a full-time starter at the SHL level. Come 2018-19, the Flyers' 2015 third-round pick (70th overall) is likely to come over to North America and compete with 2016 second-round pick (48th overall) Carter Hart.
2) Congratulations to Flyers' 2015 fourth-round pick (98th overall) Samuel Dove-McFalls. The shutdown center's St. John Sea Dogs captured the President's Trophy as QMJHL champions on Wednesday as they downed the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, to complete a sweep and a playoff run that saw St. John win 16 of 18 games. During the postseason, Dove-McFalls posted 12 points (five goals, seven assists) and plus-11 rating in the 18 games. The Sea Dogs will now advance to the 2017 Memorial Cup.
3) In Thursday's 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Championships preliminary round action, Russia blanked Denmark by 3-0 count. Ivan Provorov, whose streak was snapped of recording a point in each game of the preliminary round, skated 17:11 over 23 shifts.
4) The Czech Republic had to work overtime and fire 32 shots on goal to solve Team Norway goaltender Lars Haugen but finally did so on a Jan Kovar goal to prevail 1-0. Czech captain Jakub Voracek (17:10 TOI, three shots on goal, 2 PIM) was back in the lineup after leaving his team's victory over Finland in the first period. Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas (19:22 TOI, two shots on goal, even plus-minus) skated 23 shifts.
5) In one of the later-starting games on Thursday, Team Canada took on France. The French were coming off back-to-back upset wins over Finland (regulation) and Switzerland (shootout). The game was tied, 1-1, at the first intermission as of this writing.
