Summary:
There is a deep sense of irony that the first goal of the game was a short handed tally from Florida and the overtime winner was a power play goal. Reinhart is having a season to remember, hit 500 points on that opening tally and just seems to be another really good pickup for the Panthers. Lyon kept Detroit in the game against his former club and the captain scored his 18th of the year when the team needed it.
Earlier today, it felt like an overtime point tonight would be a good step forward. Florida has had Detroitβs number for a while. Tkachuk was physical and, sure enough (mentioned in the pregame) was able to get Detroit off of their game and into the penalty box.
After Detroit tied the score at 1 it took all of 16 seconds for Florida to regain the lead. Robby Fabbri, who seems to find a way in tough situations, tied the score at 2 and Detroit drew a penalty in the final 40 seconds of the 3rd period. This win not only breaks a 10 game losing streak vs. the Panthers but also marks the first time Detroit has scored more than 2 on Bobrovsky. This was a big win for the club. Lyon stopped 32 of 34 shots, Rasmussen had 2 points, Compher and Perron figured into the scoring and Gostisbehere continues to add value to the O zone play.
Detroit has to grind through a tough schedule and keep finding a way to add points. Carolina and Tampa Bay are coming up and both can be rough outings. Wins in Toronto and Florida seem to have this team feeling pretty good right now. Hereβs to a good stretch as the season inches closer toward the trade deadline. For tonight, this is another win well worth celebrating for Detroit.

At 6:15 in the third, Robby Fabbri ties it up. Rasmussen was puck handling and holding off a defender behind the net. As the big forward skated out toward the half wall he found Fabbri skating toward the slot and Fab got his 13th of the year. 2-2

Gostisbehere was up near the goal line and took a pass from Perron. The Dman finds Larkin at the top of the lower right face off dot. Larkin skated a couple feet toward the net a picked the far side.
