Should Helenius play nine NHL games or fewer next season, the team won’t burn the first year of his deal and the contract will slide. While Helenius is likely still a little ways away from playing with the Kings, it’s clear that the team sees lots of potential with him, given that they moved up in the draft to select him and have already inked him to an entry-level contract.
With the contract, Helenius becomes the second player selected by the Kings in this year’s draft to sign with the team, after eighth-overall pick Brandt Clarke signed his entry-level deal earlier this week.
