The San Jose Sharks picked up their second win of the season tonight, defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 3-0.
It marked Oskar Lindblom’s first game against his former team, after being bought out this summer. Noah Gregor and Jaycob Megna also re-entered San Jose’s lineup, while Nick Bonino and Scott Harrington were scratched.

The Sharks then put together a really strong second frame, outshooting Philadelphia 12-5. It did look like the Flyers had opened the scoring about seven minutes into the period, when Joel Farabee scored off a rush on a power play, but it was called off for offside. Then just two minutes later, Tomas Hertl teed up a shot for Erik Karlsson, who one-timed the puck past Felix Sandstrom to open the scoring. Then as San Jose continued to press, just before the end of the period, Steven Lorentz redirected a point shot from Jaycob Megna, extending the lead.
Philadelphia did take control in the third period though, outshooting San Jose by a huge 16-6 margin. They were all over the Sharks and Reimer had to make quite a few point-blank saves, but with about four minutes left, Nico Sturm was able to battle off Scott Laughton to bury an empty netter, securing a 3-0 win for the Sharks.
It was a decent game for the Sharks and aside from the third period that was largely controlled by Philadelphia, they put together a pretty solid outing.
The game marked the end of San Jose’s four-game Eastern road trip. While the Sharks do sit at just 2-6-0 overall, the road trip itself can be looked at a lot more positively, picking up four of a possible eight points.
James Reimer also remains San Jose’s MVP so far early in the year, picking up a 30-save shutout. He’s posted an excellent .933 save percentage over five games and has been extremely reliable for the Sharks so far.
San Jose now kicks off a six-game homestand, with a good chance to start making up some of the ground they lost with their slow start. Their next game comes on Tuesday against the Vegas Golden Knights.
