The San Jose Sharks finalized their roster ahead of Friday's home opener against the Carolina Hurricanes, following two games against the Nashville Predators to open the season as part of the NHL Global Series.

Here’s the full roster:

FORWARDS (13): Nick Bonino, Logan Couture, Jonah Gadjovich, Noah Gregor, Tomas Hertl, Luke Kunin, Kevin Labanc, Oskar Lindblom, Steven Lorentz,

DEFENSE (7): Matt Benning, Mario Ferraro, Scott Harrington, Erik Karlsson, Jaycob Megna, Radim Simek, Marc-Edouard Vlasic

GOALIES (2): Kaapo Kahkonen, James Reimer

INJURED: Alexander Barabanov, Markus Nutivaara

Not listed was Nikolai Knyzhov, who’s also injured and expected to miss most of the season.

The updated roster comes as no surprise, as everyone listed played in at least one of the Sharks’ Global Series games against the Nashville Predators (or was injured).

Thomas Bordeleau and William Eklund, among others, were the notable names sent down to the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda. It didn’t come as much of a surprise, given that while both players made the trip overseas, neither suited up for a game against Nashville.

While there’s certainly an argument to be made that either could make an impact in the lineup right now, starting them in the AHL makes sense. The Sharks aren’t going to be competitive this year and letting them develop a bit with the Barracuda, rather than rushing them to the NHL, is likely the right call. With William Eklund’s entry-level contract eligible to slide for another year if he doesn’t play at least 10 NHL games this season, that’s something to consider as well.
