The Canadiens held a morning skate today and there was a new face at practice. Having finished his 14-day quarantine, Sean Burke was on the ice working with the goalies. Tonight, we’ll see Jake Allen in net and Carey Price will get the nod tomorrow night, that was to be expected since it’s been a while since Allen patrolled the crease.
As for the lines and defensive pairs, they will be the same as the ones who finished the last game. If you don’t remember, here they are:
Drouin-Kotkaniemi-Anderson Tatar-Danault-Gallagher Toffoli-Suzuki-Armia Byron-Evans-Perry Edmundson-Weber Kulak-Petry Romanov-Ouellet
After the last game, Danault was asked if he was glad to have Gallagher back on his line and he replied: “Of course, we can all find each other all over the place on the ice…. The reformed line produced 2 goals and let’s hope it’s as efficient tonight. Meanwhile, Nick Suzuki, who is going through a tough stretch, will find himself saddled with the rather ineffective Joel Armia while Kotkaniemi gets the top 2 wingers.
The Romanov-Ouellet pairing gets another go, but the young Russian will play on the left this time. Coach Ducharme mentioned: “We want Romy to play on the left. It’s more natural for him…. That’s probably a good decision, while Romanov has showed he’s very talented, it’s always a good idea to play a rookie on its natural side and it will prepare him better to step into a top 4 spot.
Once again, Arturri Lehkonen and Victor Mete are healthy scratches. With the trade deadline approaching, I’m starting to wonder if either or both could be trade bait in a package deal. Lehkonen was without a doubt one of Claude Julien’s favourites, but it doesn’t seem to be the case with Ducharme. And while his contract is up this season, he'll be an RFA with arbitration rights which means that the team who would trade for him would remain in control of his rights.
What can you get for Lehkonen? I’m not sure but that would be $2.4 M off the books and perhaps it could go some way towards finding some help at the blue line. Speaking of help at the blue line, Northeastern will find out on March 21st whether or not it gets to the take part in the National Championship, if they don’t, Jordan Harris’ season will be over. He’ll probably needs some seasoning in the AHL, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bergevin sign him in the following days.
Tonight’s game starts at 7:00 PM and looking at the standings, the Canucks are only trailing the Habs by 2 points. Of course, Montreal has 4 games in hand on Vancouver, but still, the CH would do well to make the most of their last 2 games of the season against the Canucks.

Les Canadiens ont tenu un entrainement matinal aujourd’hui et il y avait un nouveau visage sur la glace. En effet, Sean Burke ayant terminé sa quarantaine, il était sur la glace pour travailler avec les gardiens. Ce soir, on verra Jake Allen dans le filet et Carey Price demain soir, c’était à prévoir puisque ça fait un bout de temps qu’Allen n’a pas patrouillé le demi-cercle. Quant aux trios et duos défensifs, ils seront les mêmes que ceux qui ont fini le dernier match. Si vous ne vous en souvenez pas, les voici:

Après le dernier match, Danault s’était fait demander s’il était heureux de retrouver Gallagher sur son trio et il avait répondu: “Bien sà»r, on peut tous se trouver n’importe o๠sur la glace…. Le trio reformé a produit 2 buts et espérons qu’il sera tout aussi efficace ce soir. Pendant ce temps, Nick Suzuki, qui connait des ennuis dernièrement, se retrouvera pris avec un Joel Armia aux allures de fantôme, alors que Kotkaniemi retrouvera les 2 meilleurs ailiers.
La paire Romanov-Ouellet s’est mérité une autre chance, mais le jeune russe jouera maintenant à la gauche. L’entraineur Ducharme a mentionné: « Nous voulons que Romy joue à gauche, c’est plus naturel pour lui ». Il s’agit probablement d’une bonne décision, bien que Romanov ait démontré qu’il est talentueux, c’est toujours une bonne idée de laisser une recrue jouer sur son côté naturel et ça le préparera mieux à graduer sur le top 4 ou c’est d’un gaucher qu’on aura besoin.
Une fois de plus, Arturri Lehkonen et Victor Mete ne seront pas en uniforme. à l’approche de la date limite des transactions, je commence à me demander si l’un d’eux ou les deux ne pourraient pas servir de monnaie d’échange dans une transaction avec plusieurs morceaux. Lehkonen était sans aucune doute l’un des favoris de Claude Julien, mais ça ne semble pas être le cas avec Ducharme. De plus, bien que son contrat vienne à échéance à la fin de la saison, il sera un agent libre avec restrictions avec un droit à l’arbitrage, ce qui signifie que l’équipe qui en ferait l’acquisition demeurerait en contrôle de ses droits.
Que peut-on aller chercher pour Lehkonen? Je ne sais pas mais ça donnerait quand même 2.4$ M sous la masse salariale et peut-être que ça pourrait être utilisé pour aller chercher de l’aide à la ligne bleue. Parlant d’aide à la ligne bleue, Northeastern saura le 21 mars si l’équipe est invitée au championnat national, si ce n’est pas le cas, la saison de Jordan Harris sera terminée. Il aura probablement besoin de temps dans la ligne américaine, mais il ne serait pas surprenant de voir Bergevin le signer dans les prochains jours.
Le match de ce soir commence à 7:00 PM et si on regarde le classement, les Canucks ne sont que 2 points derrière les Habs. Bien sà»r, Montréal a 4 matchs en main, mais quand même, l’équipe serait bien avisée de profiter de ses deux derniers matchs contre les Canucks cette saison.
