It’s a well know fact that hockey fans, and particularly Habs fans are passionate. When they love a player, they do it passionately. Midway through the 90s, the Habs faithful were introduced to a diminutive centre who would soon find his way into their heart; Saku Koivu. The young Finn was immediately adulated in Montreal and why not? What was not to like? He played hard, never took a shift off, was always ready to face the music and would soon become the captain of the team for a record tying 10 season. So when it was announced at the start of the 2001-2202 season that Koivu had a form of cancer, the collective heart of Habs nation sunk. Thankfully though, near the end of the season, Koivu returned to the line-up having won the biggest battle of his life and prompting the Molson Centre crowd to give him an ovation for the ages. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words so for once, I won’t write a long blog, I’ll let the ovation speak for itself as one of my best Habs memories:
