Follow @james_tanner123 The Coyotes opened training camp today with physicals and media relations.
Fresh new coach Rick Tocchet will be behind the bench for the Coyotes this year as they try to erase the last half-decade of hockey from everyone's memory. New coach, not starting goalie, almost entirely new roster, and the Coyotes will have a new captain, due to Shane Doan retiring. The new captain will be Oliver Ekman-Larsson.
They did not yet name OEL the captain, though it would be a shocking surprise were anyone else named, although really, who cares? Nothing is dumber and more annoying to have to talk and/or write about than who is the captain.
Annti Raanta will look to lock down a starting job for the first time in his career and everyone is excited to see Dereck Stepan.
The only thing that really puts a damper at on this camp is the injury to Jacob Chychrun, who hurt is knee this offseason. The Coyotes won't say when he'll be back, but the word on the street is after Christmas.
The Coyotes will play the Kings on Monday in the first game of the pre-season.
