This Week Changes Everything for the Flyers (Flyers news)

This wasn’t just another regular-season win.

This felt different.

The Flyers delivered a massive victory last night  not just because of the opponent, not just because of the stakes, but because of what it means in the standings.

They are now just one game out of a playoff spot.

After months of inconsistency, frustration, and questions about direction, the Flyers have won six of their last seven games. And suddenly, what once felt like a distant possibility feels real.

This isn’t a fluke stretch.

They’re playing fast.

They’re playing confidently.

They’re getting timely saves.

Most importantly they believe.

Owen Tippett continues to look like a different player, attacking with speed and shooting with authority. Matvei Michkov looks dangerous every time the puck touches his stick. The depth players are contributing. And Dan Vladar has given this team stability in net when it matters most.

For weeks, the narrative was about draft positioning.

Now it’s about playoff positioning.

And that’s a massive shift.

What makes this run even more impressive is the pressure attached to it. Every game has felt like a must-win. And instead of folding, this group has responded.

They’re not perfect. They still have roster flaws. The power play still needs work. But right now, none of that matters.

Momentum matters.

Belief matters.

And this team suddenly has both.

Are they actually about to do the unthinkable?

Six wins in seven games says it’s possible.

One game out says it’s real.

For the first time in a long time, meaningful hockey in April doesn’t feel like a fantasy.

It feels like it might actually happen.

I’ll be honest, a few weeks ago, I was thinking about a draft position.

I was looking at the standings and thinking maybe a better pick wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. Maybe finishing lower would finally bring in that elite talent this team has been missing.

But at this point?

I’m all in.

When you win six of seven and sit one game out of a playoff spot, the conversation changes. You don’t root for lottery odds when your team is playing meaningful hockey in March. You don’t ask young players to slow down when they’re accelerating in real time.

The young core is stepping up.

Owen Tippett looks like a legitimate 40-goal scorer. He’s not just shooting, he's attacking. He’s creating his own space. He’s playing with confidence that feels sustainable, not streaky.

Matvei Michkov continues to elevate the offense every time he touches the puck. The creativity is there. The edge is there.

And maybe the most surprising development of all the power play has woken up.

The puck movement is sharper. The entries are cleaner. There’s urgency instead of hesitation. For a unit that sat near the bottom of the league for much of the year, the recent surge has been massive.

That’s what makes this stretch different.

It’s not smoke and mirrors.

It’s growth.

At some point, you stop worrying about draft slots and start embracing the momentum in front of you.

Right now, the Flyers have earned that.

And if they’re going to make this push, then lean into it.

Because meaningful games in April matter especially for a young core learning how to win together.

And it’s not just the headliners driving this run.

Alex Bump has been outstanding and a huge part of this stretch. His pace, physicality, and ability to win puck battles have added a dimension this lineup desperately needed. He’s impacting shifts, not just filling them.

Denver Barkey has also made significant strides. His confidence with the puck has grown noticeably, and he’s playing with more poise in key moments. The reads are quicker. The decisions are sharper. He doesn’t look overwhelmed, he looks like a player settling into his role and starting to elevate it.

That kind of internal growth matters.

Then there’s Sam Ersson, who has stepped up in a big way over the past few weeks. The saves are timely. The rebound control is cleaner. The composure is there. He’s been a stabilizing force during this stretch, and you can feel the team feeding off it.

This surge isn’t being carried by one line or one star.

It’s coming from growth across the lineup.

Which makes the next two games absolutely massive.

Capitals tomorrow. Red Wings Thursday.

Momentum has gotten them here.

Now they have to prove it’s real.
