Maple Leafs’ Sammy Blais Shares Update After Injury Scare
For Toronto Maple Leafs fans clamoring for an uptick in physicality, Sammy Blais has been a breath of fresh air. Since being claimed off waivers early this season, the 6’2" forward has been a sparkplug on every shift. In just seven games with the Leafs, Blais has already delivered a staggering 27 hits while chipping in with a goal and an assist.
However, his physical style of play led to a terrifying moment during last night's game.
A Scary Moment on the Bench
Blais was a late insertion into the lineup following an injury to Matthew Knies. While looking to make an impact, Blais was forced to leave the game in the third period after taking a hard hit to the chest. The situation escalated quickly when Blais returned to the bench and began coughing up blood, requiring immediate and urgent attention from the Leafs' medical staff.

Berube: "He had body contact, and then he was kind of like coughing up blood and stuff, So, he had to go in (to the room)."
Blais Returns to Practice
Fortunately, the situation appears to be far less severe than it looked in the heat of the moment. Today, the Leafs provided a promising update as Blais was spotted on the ice for the team's optional practice.
Following the skate, Blais spoke with local media to shed light on the incident and his current condition.

He got hit in the chest yesterday and was spitting out blood. But everything is all clear.
“We did some scans and I’m all good. It was a scary situation.”
Status for Columbus
This is incredibly positive news for the organization, but more importantly, it is a relief to hear that Blais avoided serious internal injury.
While his return to the ice is a good sign, there is currently no confirmation on whether he will slot back into the lineup tomorrow night when the Leafs face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
