After an emphatic 6-2 win last night, the Montreal Canadiens are continuing their strong start to the season, holding a 10-3-2 record good enough for second place in the NHL. Not much has changed in the Habs approach as their high tempo, relentless forechecking style continues to give teams problems. Also, the offence seems to be coming from everywhere in the lineup which was a problem in the past. Here are a few points of interest, good and bad.

Kirby Dach

He seems far more comfortable within the Canadiens system, and Marty St-Louis had some interesting spot game comments last night. He said that Dach's actions were matching what he was saying he wished to accomplish on the ice, and I can't say he's wrong. He's far more of a complete player this year, and is showing strong play 5-5 in the last few games. He's scored in three straight games, and things seem to really be clicking in the right direction for him. I think not having the burden of being the number 2 centre has freed him up to play his game and adapt it to the established system. Good for him!

Oliver Kapanen

He's taken his opportunity and ran with it. After being put on a line with Demidov, Kapanen is currently the rookie goal leader. Not only that, he's also showing that he's a force 5-5, something he was already doing quite well last year. St-Louis praised his ability to think the game and not cheat when he's out there. He sticks to the game plan and is being rewarded due to his high IQ, skating and overall great skill set.

Ivan Demidov

Nothing much to say here that has not been said other than he's outstanding. This guy is the real deal.

Montembeault

He had a great game and made several key saves in order to preserve the lead for the Habs. His best came in the 3rd when Clayton Keller let go of a quick shot in the slot which Monty snatched with his glove. This is the kind of save he needs to make going forwards to keep late leads and allow the Habs to breath. Happy he was able to get the W.

Noah Dobson

He looks great out there, and his offensive contributions take some pressure off Hutson to do it all. So far he has 11 points and is a +7 through 15 games. He's big, smart and fast. Such a great pick up by Huges.

The Habs are back in action vs the Kings at 7pm on Tuesday. Let the good times roll!
