FINALLY
After months and months and months of speculation, it seems the Capitals finally have an opponent for the 2015 NHL Winter Classic in DC. TSN Insider Bob MacKenzie tweeted today that the Chicago Blackhawks have been named to go up against the Washington Capitals on/or near New Year's Day.
The location still hasn't been finalized, but chances are it will be at Nationals Park, home the Washington Nationals.
Both the Capitals and the Blackhawks will be playing in their second Winter Classic. The Blackhawks hosted the Red Wings in 2009 and the Caps paid a visit to Pittsburgh in 2011.
There were many Caps fans hoping that an Eastern Conference rival like the Flyers would be picked for the Classic, but I'm happy to see one of the NHL's best-from-the-West come to DC. We don't get to see a team like the Blackhawks very often, so it's a nice change of pace from our typical rivals in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.
