When Hockey Is More Than Just A Game... (nhl)

We all know that hockey players are a rare breed and different from other professional athletes, but it's always nice to be reminded.

This morning, I was inspired by the entire St Louis Blues team after learning they will all be spending their day off in NYC in New Haven, CT at Engalls Arena for practice in the afternoon (which is open to the public) and then will stay for the women's game between Yale and Brown, which is also White Out for Mandi Night, a fundraiser to honor the memory of Mandi Schwartz - Blues forward, Jaden Schwarts' sister - who passed away from leukemia in 2011 despite a desperate search to find a bone marrow donor.

Then, my heart just about burst with pride when I learned that David Glen, sophomore assistant captain at Penn State would miss their next three games to undergo a bone marrow donation procedure. When PSU head coach, Guy Gadowsky, signed on to start this program from scratch three years ago, he said he wanted to fill his roster with good players but, most importantly, good people with strong character who could lay a strong foundation for what this program will represent. I don't think even he could have envisioned this awesome display of selflessness by @glenflow.

Hockey players are special and I couldn't be happier to wave my hockey fan card today.
