Weight promoted to Assistant GM (isles)

The Islanders have announced changes to their front offices today. Doug Weight has been promoted to Assistant General Manager and remains an assistant coach. The Islanders have also announced that Greg Cronin and Bob Corkum have been named assistant coaches.

Cronin had been head coach in Bridgeport before leaving to coach at Northeastern University. For the past three seasons he had been an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bob Corkum was an advisor to the team last season and his role has been expanded to include assistant coaching duties. Corkum played over 700 games in the NHL, most notably with the Sabres, Ducks and Coyotes.

Both Cronin and Corkum are respected coaches and should help behind the bench. I also could see Cronin taking over the head coaching job if this team stumbles out of the gate next season. From first glance, the hiring of Cronin looks like a safety net if Islanders' General Manager Garth Snow were to fire Head Coach Jack Capuano mid-season.
