The Preds seven game home winning streak versus the Blackhawks five game overall winning streak, and Chicago left Nashville with their streak at six after a 3-1 win over the Predators. It was a tight game at the Bridge last night as these two teams battled for first place in the Central, but the story of the night was Brandon Saad. He was the proverbial straw that stirred the drink.

Saad got the scoring started with a filthy wrister that cleanly beat Pekka Rinne with about 5 minutes to go in the first period. The play was the product of a turnover forced by Duncan Keith and Saad made the Preds pay. Turnovers were the key for Nashville’s home demise as each Blackhawk goal was the result of loose play with the puck.

Nashville once again brought it in the third period, firing off a nice goal from Colin Wilson, who is quietly putting together a nice season scoring his 6th goal of the season. The slow starts of this team are beginning to become concerning, combine that with the continued struggles on the power play (1-44 now at home) there is some cause for it.

The Predators now head out on the road after a very successful stretch of games in late November / early December. First off is Colorado on Tuesday night, completing the trifecta of Central Division games. It will be the Preds first look at the Avalanche this season. Then it is off to Arizona and San Jose before returning home for the last game at Bridgestone Arena before Christmas… a Tuesday night showdown with the Boston Bruins.

And here are your highlights from last night…

Random Notes

- Spring break hit Nashville last night as a bunch of crazy kids showed up to drink… uhhh… watch a hockey game at Bridgestone Arena last night. Never mind that it was early December, a cheap Southwest fare and a hockey game allows people to do what they would never do in their own home, well almost never.

- The return of Mike Fisher is complete, almost 20 minutes of ice time and he was really making things happen last night.

- The Predators are behind Chicago by one point but do hold a game in hand.

- Congratulations to Mike Babcock on winning his 500th game last night as an NHL head coach.
