Islanders acquire Jaroslav Halak (isles.islanders)

The New York Islanders have traded a 2014 4th round pick for the rights to Washington Capitals' goalie Jaroslav Halak. The Islanders' have until July 1st to sign the impending free agent. Halak's agent has reported that there is interest from his client in signing a long term deal with the Islanders.

This is a clear and aggressive move to try and provide long term stability in goal and I do believe the Isles will have a good chance of signing the 29 year old Slovak netminder. In 52 games with the Blues and Capitals this season, Halak had a record of 29-13-7 with a .921 save percentage and a 2.25 goals against average.

The fourth round pick that the Capitals receive is actually Chicago's fourth rounder that was acquired in the deal that sent both Peter Regin and Pierre-Marc Bouchard to the Blackhawks earlier this year.
