Good news abounds this morning for the Blackhawks, who have moved into first place in the Central Division with last night’s shootout win over the Coyotes at the UC.
On top of that, former Hawk and 2010 Stanley Cup winner Kris Versteeg was re-acquired last night in a trade with Florida which sent winger Jimmy Hayes and defenseman Dylan Olsen to the Panthers.
I’ll be back with a more detailed blog on all this later today.
For now, let me say that while I was never a huge Versteeg fan in his prior tenure with the Hawks, his main issue at that time was perhaps less than optimal decision-making (mostly on the ice).
Time and maturity are great teachers. And Versteeg is still a fast, feisty player with great hands who can fill a variety of roles. Further, he provides veteran experience to a lineup that has featured up to four first year players at forward thus far this season.
