Washington Capitals clinch Presidents' Trophy (Canadiens)

The Washington Capitals clinched the Presidents' Trophy tonight by defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 in DC.

The Caps needed just one point to clinch coming into tonight's game.

Lately, the Caps have been a little lackluster in their play, so the feat makes me feel a little queasy in my expectations for the playoffs.

The Caps controlled most of the game tonight, but they looked, as they have been lately, too passive and too fancy with the puck.

It's a scary time in DC for Caps fans. Images of playoffs-past are creeping up around the corner. With the Presidents Trophy wrapped up, Washington can now look to the post-season a little more clearly.

If the playoffs started today, they would face the Flyers, which at this point would be wonderful.

With 7 games left, the Caps can now focus on helping Braden Holtby reach a milestone by breaking Martin Brodeur's record of 48 wins.

The Caps are now 54-16-5 with 113 points and have home ice advantage for however long they are in the playoffs.
