Let's check in on a few events and media appearances for Team Canuck:

First—and probably most importantly, the boss will be on TSN1040 for a couple of hours today:

I wonder what the big news will be? Last year, I remember Linden talking a lot about the new concession menu during this appearance.

I could be way off, but my guess is that he'll be giving more details about the 20th anniversary celebration for Rogers Arena.

Today is also Miracle Treat Day at Dairy Queen:

Fin will be at the Dairy Queen location at 5907 Fraser St. from 11-12:30 along with Canucks alumni Kirk McLean and Darcy Rota.

If you're jonesing for hockey and you happen to have a copy of D2: The Mighty Ducks lying around, you can join a livetweeting event sponsored by the NHL today at 4 p.m.

Last night, local boy Brendan Gallagher of the Montreal Canadiens hosted his first annual Celebrity Softball Classic at Nat Bailey Stadium.

The lineup of NHL players in attendance included Alex Galchenyuk, Morgan Rielly, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, all three Reinhart brothers, Lance Bouma, Landon Ferraro, Cliff and Ty Ronning, Kyle Wellwood—and Eddie Lack.

Looks like a good time was had by all:

Sami Salo Officially Retires

Finally, for today, word out of Finland that former Canuck Sami Salo has officially hung up his skates:

Salo's last games came in 2013-14, as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Yahoo's Puck Daddy has the translation of the report from the Finnish media:

"The hand is what it is. I'm no longer able to play, not ice hockey and tennis. At least not professionally. The truth is that I am 40 years old and I have not played for years,… Salo told Ilta-Sanomat in an interview.

After becoming a free agent, Salo had surgery on the wrist in October of 2014 to see if the procedure would allow him to come back and play.

He still had several teams inquiring about his services last fall, but Salo told them that he was “not fit to play… and wanted to see if surgery could correct his wrist issue. Alas, it didn’t, and Salo said ‘so long.’

Salo was injury-prone throughout his career, though he did manage 79 games in his first season with the Canucks in 2002-03.

He finishes his career with 878 NHL games over 15 seasons—566 of which came as a member of the Vancouver Canucks—and scored 99 goals and 339 points. He added 12 goals and 31 points during 102 playoff games, including seven postseason runs with Vancouver.

For better or worse, this will always be the memory that pops into my head when I hear Salo's name:
