This might be the first Hockey Buzz blog written on an iPhone 5. Well maybe not. But here's a short entry to catch up a bit:
TIMONEN
I applaud this move. Monday Morning QBs and self-appointed guardians of the Rockwell Wirtz Fortune are already questioning this move. But a healthy Kimmo Timonen, even at 39, is a better defenseman than much of what's been mentioned previously as being on the market. And even if Timonen falls flat on his face, this is a bold, go big or go home move by a GM not known for such things. It tells the players, coaches and fans, Stan Bowman wants to win.
But Bowman shouldn't be and probably isn't finished. He needs some veteran size and face off wins.
CAPS RUMOR
I heard this morning this rumor might be legit, and I personal ally have heard Patrick Sharp's name linked to Columbus and Florida in the last ten days.
One name I heard speculated in return for Sharp is Joel Ward. Meh, okay. But folks, there is a guy on the Caps who is big, a brutal body checker, scores goals, and wins 55%+ on faceffs: Troy Brouwer. Problem there is the Caps are serious about a playoff run of their own, and probably not dealing Brouwer.
As for last night's game, the Hawks looked tired, but also overmatched at times by a team with both speed and size. The Timonen move could be a nice add for this club, alleviating the burden a lack of depth puts on the Top 4. But last night's game suggests Bowman should still be working the phones.
