The NHL is close to announcing a deal with MLB streaming to take over the technical aspects of streaming NHL games. To many this may seem like an odd idea, the NHL isn't the first major streaming company to contract out to MLB. HBO also uses MLB streaming for its HBO and online services.
Many of you "Game of Thrones" fans may remember how much of a disaster the streaming of the season premiere was two years back. With so many people watching at the same time the HBO stream essentially collapsed and many were left with no show and complaining was rampant online. At that point HBO contacted Major-League Baseball and since they have taken over there have been no repeat disasters and HBO streams have been pretty much flawless... Even when traffic reaches its greatest.
And that's not an easy thing to do, but MLB does it better than anyone else... So this is a great move by the NHL.
