Stars Fall to Florida in Preseason Tilt (Stars)

The Dallas Stars' preseason record dropped to 1-3-0 as they lost, 4-2, to the Florida Panthers at the American Airlines Center on Sunday. The score was tied at 2-2 at the second intermission and most of the third period until Connor Brickley put the Panthers ahead to stay with 4:19 remaining in regulation.

Dallas held an early lead in the first period as defenseman Jyrki Jokipakka intercepted a puck in the neutral zone and fed Mattias Janmark, who beat Roberto Luongo (20 saves on 23 shots) with a 32-foot snap shot at the 3:28 mark. Former Stars winger Jussi Jokinen tied the game for Florida with 5:49 left in the period.

Another former Dallas forward, Reilly Smith, put the Panthers ahead midway through the second frame before Travis Moen answered back for the Stars at 15:58 to send the game to the locker room tied at 2-2.

The Stars controlled most of the third period, outshooting Florida by a 10-3 margin but came up short on the scoreboard. After Brickley's go-ahead goal, Derek MacKenzie tacked on an empty net goal in the final 17 seconds. Losing goaltender Kari Lehtonen finished with 17 saves on 20 shots.

The preseason slate continues for the Stars on Tuesday night. Lindy Ruff's squad will play host to Ken Hitchcock and the St. Louis Blues. Game time is 7:30 p.m. CT.

Earlier on Sunday, Dallas general manager Jim Nill announced 17 preseason roster cuts. The roster currently stands at 36 players with 13 more cuts to make before opening night rosters are set.
