Never in my five+ years of writing this blog have I encountered a deadline so filled with Hawk rumors.
Some, a lot of them, are about locker room and personal issues. And those I will not go into—even if I had solid information on them, which I really don’t.
The big rumor (from a great source outside Chicago) is about a deal that was allegedly discussed between the Hawks and Panthers, before the Kane injury last night, that had Patrick Sharp, Bryan Bickell, Ryan Hartman and a 2nd round pick going to Florida for Jonathan Huberdeau, Alex Petrovic (the irony), and Scottie Upshall.
I’ve also been told by multiple sources that the Hawks are scouting Toronto hard, at both the NHL and AHL levels, and as has been often reported here over the last three years, love Daniel Winnik as a lower line utility forward.
Also, watch Arizona, and Edmonton (rumor has it the Hawks are talking about Antti Raanta and a pick for defenseman Jeff Petry).
The news on Kane is not good. It’s not clear exactly what the injury is, though rumor has it it’s a broken clavicle, which effectively ends his season.
The Hawks have called up Teuvo Teravainen—and playing 2nd line RW is a perfect opportunity for him.
My gut tells me the Kane injury is no reason for the Hawks not to proceed with some deals. Rather, it should be an impetus for them to move ahead.
