Rookie Camp Opens in Voorhees (Flyers)

The Philadelphia Flyers open rookie camp at the Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ on Monday morning. At 9 a.m., the first group of players will take the ice, doing timed blueline-to-blueline sprints under the eye of Flyers trainer Jim McCrossin. While the rookies test on Phantoms' rink, a full complement of Flyers veterans will work out on the Flyers rink.

Something to keep an eye on over the course of camp will be the instructional work done by new Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol. As a veteran of 15 years of collegiate coaching (including 11 seasons as a head coach) at the University of North Dakota preceded by four years of USHL coaching, teaching young players is already in his wheelhouse. In fact, this may be the one area at his first NHL camp in which he enjoys an advantage over head coaches who have grown accustomed to primarily working with pro-level players.

A total of 24 players are scheduled to take part in the rookie camp. Here is the roster:

SEPT. 15: FLYERS CELEBRITY GOLF INVITATIONAL

On Tuesday, Sept. 15, all of the Philadelphia Flyers' players will participate in the 2015 Flyers Celebrity Golf Invitational at Trump National Golf Club in Pine Hill, NJ. Flyers players Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek and Wayne Simmonds are honorary co-chairmen of the event. All proceeds go to benefit the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation.

Snider Hockey provides learn-to-skate programs, public skating opportunities, ice hockey instruction, and league play. including all equipment, as well as supplemental academic services at no charge to approximately 3,000 inner city boys and girls in the Philadelphia area.

A year event that is the capstone fundraiser for Snider Hockey, the Celebrity Golf event grosses over $1 million annually.
