Stars right winger Brett Ritchie underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn wrist ligament, according to the team's official website.
In a statement released by the team, Stars general manager Jim Nill said, ""Brett's surgery went very well and he'll work hard to get back on the ice. We expect Brett to make a full recovery as he should return to the ice in three to four months."
Ritchie, the Stars' second-round pick (44th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft, enjoyed a promising rookie AHL campaign for the Calder Cup winning Texas Stars in 2013-14. He posted 22 goals, 48 points and a plus-14 in 68 regular season games and then added seven goals and 11 points in 13 Calder Cup Playoff games.
Last season, Ritchie split the year between the AHL and the NHL. Making his NHL debut with Dallas in a New Year's Eve game against the Arizona Coyotes, Ritchie scored the game-winning goal in the second period of a 6-0 shutout win at the American Airlines Center. The big-framed (6-foot-3, 220-pound) winger also posted a goal and an assist in his second NHL game; a 7-1 home blowout win over the Minnesota Wild on Jan. 3.
Overall, Ritchie dressed in 31 games for Dallas in 2014-15, posting six goals and 9 points. He also played in 33 games for the Cedar Park-based Texas Stars, producing 14 goals, 21 points and a plus-15 rating. At the time of his initial call-up to the NHL, Ritchie had played 24 AHL games, leading the farm team with a plus-10 rating while posting 11 goals and 18 points.
