Post Battle #71 vs New Jersey Devils (Blue Jackets)

Final Score: Devils 3 – Blue Jackets 6

Game Summary

Oliver Bjorkstand welcome to the show! It took him all of two games to show Jacket fans what the hype was all about. He scored two goals, including the game winner, as the Jackets beat the Devils 6-3.

Both his goals showed what I was talking about this week, if he can find space Alex Wennberg is going to find and they are going to be deadly. He found space this game. The first one Wennberg had the puck behind the net, Bjorkstrand was able to sneak in past his man and get right into the slot. Wennberg made a nice pass and Bjorkstrand was there to bury his first NHL goal.

Underrated part of that goal is Cody Goloubef pinching in. He was right there for a rebound or if Bjorkstrand missed the pass. Very alert play. Bjork’s second goal he was able to create his own space. He was able to just get a step on the defencemen, it wasn’t a ton of space but it was more than enough for him. He had enough room to release his wicked wrist shot.

He couldn’t get the hat trick though it wasn’t from a lack of effort. The team was trying late to get him the puck but it wasn’t meant to be. Still this is going to be a game he remembers for a long time.

This will also be a game to remember for Head Coach John Tortorella. This was his 1000th career game coached in the NHL. He becomes the first American born coach to reach the milestone and the first non-Canadian to reach the milestone. Congrats Torts.
